Washington - ArabToday
US President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he was looking at both the one-state and two-state solution for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Trump said that both solutions were equally acceptable to him, but maintained that it is the two parties that need to decide the way forward. Speaking at a joint media conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump said that both sides would have to offer compromises in order to reach a resolution.
On Israel's illegal settlement policies, Trump was critical of Israel's recent actions and addressed Netanyahu directly saying "I'd like to see you hold back on settlements for a little bit." Trump then moved to praise America's ties with Israel.
Netanyahu for his part discussed the peace process and said that the Palestinians must recognize Israel as a Jewish state for talks to restart. He responded to Trump's criticism of Israel's illegal settlement and said that it can be resolved with Palestinians through negotiations.
