Ola Awad, president of the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), announced the start of field operations for the population, housing and institutions 2017 general census.
“This is the third general census, fully conducted by Palestinians,” Awad said in a press release carried by the Palestinian news agency WAFA. “Modern technology will be used to collect information, such as tablets and geographic information systems.”
The general census is considered the biggest on the national level and is conducted every 10 years. It will officially start on July 15. It was conducted in 2007 and 1997.
“It aims to establish a comprehensive database that covers demographic, economic, social and housing conditions of the entire population in Palestine,” Awad said.
The census data is used for development planning and policy-making, and constitute a comprehensive framework for the implementation of various statistical surveys.
