Eight Taliban militants were killed and several others wounded in an US airstrike over Badakhshan province in Afghanistan for the first time after the US army had stopped its military operations in the province, Khaama press agency reported Wednesday.
Provincial police chief Abdul Khaliq Aqsai said that several weapons, ammunition and explosives were also destroyed in the airstrike.
According to Aqsai, the militants were targeted in Ghol Pala village amid ongoing clearance operations by the Afghan security forces.
The US forces intensified their counter-terrorism operations in Afghanistan through the airstrikes over the recent months.
The latest airstrikes in Badakhshan were carried out after two months of announcement of the new US strategy for Afghanistan and South Asia as US President Donald Trump vowed to suppress the terrorist groups.
