An Australian special forces soldier has been killed during an operation against a network of insurgents in southern Afghanistan.
Defence Force Chief General David Hurley this morning confirmed one Australian soldier was killed in action yesterday afternoon by small arms fire during a partnered operation in the Khod Valley. Another special forces soldier was seriously wounded in the same operation, and a Royal Australian Air Force airman operating with the Joint Terminal Attack Control Team was also wounded, according to (The Australian) website. Hurley said members of the patrol provided immediate first aid to casualties, who were then flown to Tarin Kot. The seriously wounded soldier had surgery and has been transferred to the Role 3 medical facility at Kandahar, while the airman is recovering at Tarin Kot.
