A Yemeni soldier was killed and eight more were injured during an attack by gunmen, believed to be al Qaeda-affiliates, on a checkpoint in Lahij governorate, said Yemeni sources on Saturday.

Clashes erupted between the Yemeni soldiers and the militants after the attack, leaving many terrorists dead and injured.

Meanwhile, Yemeni army along with the Arab Coalition-backed Popular Resistance forces managed to take control of a number of Houthi-held sites in Hajjah governorate.
