Ukraine will still host the 2015 European basketball championships, organisers said Wednesday, despite earlier indications that the tournament would be switched due to the tense political situation in the country. "Reports about Ukraine stepping down as EuroBasket 2015 hosts are not true. FIBA Europe has not received any such request," said the European division of the sport's world governing body on its Twitter feed. Local media had claimed that Ukrainian sports authorities would withdraw from staging the 2015 championships. "I just can't imagine how it's possible to prepare the staging of the European championships in such difficult economical and political conditions," Ukrainian media quoted the chief of the Euro 2015 organising committee Markian Lubkivsky. Lubkivsky had added that taking into consideration the circumstances in the country, Ukraine should ask FIBA to entrust another European country with the right to stage the 2015 European championships. "All reports reflect personal opinion of Mr Lubkivsky, not the views of the UKR Basketball Federation says @UkrBasket in statement," added FIBA Europe. Source: AFP
