Doha - Arab Today
Qatar's 2022 World Cup has been the subject of a "racist campaign," but it will not affect hosting the tournament in Qatar, President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Sheikh Ahmad Fahad Al-Sabah said on Friday.
In an interview with Qatari-based (Al-Dawri Wal Kass) television, Sheikh Ahmad stressed the integrity of the Doha bid and questioned the appointment of an American investigator, Michael Garcia, to look into the Qatari bid while his country lost the race to Qatar.
"Qatar profile for hosting the World Cup 2022 was complete, and everyone on the streets was happy and filled with joy for such win," Sheikh Ahmad added.
Sheikh Ahmad attributed the citing by Arab media to negative reports on Qatar's World Cup in western media aimed at mixing politics with sport, noting that the two areas should be separated because politicians have their own calculations, visions and thoughts that may differ from one day to another where there is no permanent friend or enemy.
On another front, Sheikh Ahmad said that he backs current FIFA President Joseph Blatter for another term.
