: Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi

Rome and Italy will bid to host the summer Olympics in 2024, Italian prime minister Matteo Renzi announced on Monday.
The Italian capital, which last held the summer Games in 1960, shelved plans to bid for the 2020 event two years ago due to concerns over costs in crisis-hit Italy. The 2020 Olympics were eventually awarded to Tokyo.
Renzi made the announcement at the headquarters of the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) on Monday during an end-of-year medals ceremony for the country's top athletes.
