ADFSC completes irrigation modernisation for 102 farms on Delma Island

Abu Dhabi Farmers' Services Centre, ADFSC, has completed the upgrading and development of irrigation networks on Delma Island farms, replacing old pumps and parts of the irrigation network within its programme of improving irrigation practices in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. 102 farms benefitted from the programme.

Conservation of natural resources, particularly water, is a strategic priority for the Abu Dhabi Farmers' Services Centre, which seeks to use alternative and innovative methods contributing to rationalising water consumption and reducing waste in the agriculture field.

Abu Dhabi Farmers' Services Centre works in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, ADFCA, to develop the farming system in Delma Island, especially the irrigation systems, and has distributed advanced irrigation materials, including drip irrigation systems, to several farms to encourage them on the use of good irrigation practices, raising efficiency and maintaining water resources as well as educating the farm owners on how to use advanced materials that reduce water wastage. The centre also provides technical support by training farm workers in the correct use of these materials and devices.

The ADFSC reiterated that the conservation of natural resources is one of the most important objectives of the centre, which supports the achievement of agricultural sustainability in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, working in coordination with the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority on the development of irrigation systems, as well as supporting conservation of available natural resources, including water and soil. It also undertakes training and providing possible methods for the success of these projects.

The ADFSC provides some of the materials necessary to modernise the irrigation networks free of charge to farm owners.
