Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit asserted the importance of supporting the Arab identity and the national state in order to solve crises facing the region.
In a speech delivered at the Egyptian Association For International Law, chaired by Mofied Shihab, Abul Gheit said that the national state should be based on the norms of justice, good governance and participation of all walks of life.
He added that there are various regional powers as well as rising powers who are waiting for the opportunity to attack the region including Iran, Turkey and Israel.
Meanwhile, he said that the United States made a big mistake when it intervened in Iraq and destroyed the Iraqi army.
Concerning the withdrawal of a number of Arab countries from the African-Arab summit in Equatorial Guinea , Abul asserted the importance of holding continuous contacts with African countries especially that Israel is currently reaching out them, pointing out that the 54-member African Union is considered a great support for the Palestinian cause.
