Beirut - Arab Today
Change and Reform Bloc member, MP Alain Aoun, said in an interview with Sawt El-Mada radio that "the proposal of Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri comes within the framework of questioning the Interior's ministry's ability to issue the biometric identity by its date for all voters."
Aoun called to give the opportunity to launch the biometric card workshop, because it falls within the framework of positive reform, which has a major impact on the elections.
"The Free Patriotic Movement is against postponing the elections, and favors holding it sooner," he said, assuring that "the importance of implementing the biometric card will not be at the expense of conducting the elections."
On the other hand, Aoun said that "the position of US President Donald Trump yesterday on the resettlement of displaced people is proof of what we were warning of."
"This is also the view of the international community. International assistance is aimed at keeping them in their place of residence, not returning them to their country. (...) This must be an incentive for the Lebanese to uphold their right and work to prevent the resettlement of displaced Syrians. Lebanon must complete the process of intensifying contacts with the international community to reject this possibility and urge their return as soon as possible to their countries," he said
