Lebanese President Michel Aoun said terror launches a world war under the disguise of religion which aims to wipe out the region's cultural heritage.
Addressing the Arab League Council meeting held Tuesday at the level of permanent delegates, Aoun said if the Arab League charter was respected, the Arab nation would have spared itself many wars and miseries.
The Zionist thought has succeeded to turn the Zionist-Arab war into an inter-Arab one based on sectarian conflict, he said, asserting the need to unify efforts to protect the Christian and Islamic heritage in Palestine.
Lebanon is ready to contribute to any Arab renaissance project based on the principles of stability and progress, he stressed.
Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit, who attended the meeting, welcomed the Lebanese president and expressed appreciation of Lebanon, saying it is necessary to maintain the country's stability and peace especially in light of the difficult time the region is going through.
Abul Gheit accompanied the Lebanese president onn a tour of the Arab League headquarters before leaving.
