Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa and Mufti Shawki Allam performed an absentee funeral prayer for victims of the ill-fated EgyptAir flight, which crashed into the Mediterranean in the wee hours of Thursday.
Gomaa and Allam performed the absentee funeral prayer after Fridays prayers at Itihad mosque in Kafr el Sheikh governorate, in northern Egypt.
Residents of the Delta city took part in the funeral prayer and prayed for mercy and forgiveness.
Speaking to MENA, Gomaa mourned all the victims.
Fifty-six passengers, including 30 Egyptians, 15 French and 11 of other nationalities along with 10 crew members, were on board the Airbus A320.
Radar lost contact with the flight at 2:45 Cairo local time while it was at an altitude of 37,000 feet.
The flight took off from Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris on Wednesday 23:09 Paris local time then disappeared from radar after entering the Egyptian airspace.
Earlier in the day, the Egyptian Armed Forces announced that they had found some parts of the plane.
In a statement, the Armed Forces said that personal belongings of passengers and parts of the plane's wreckage had been found some 290 kilometers north of Alexandria city.
