The Awqaf Ministry is keen on charity work because it contributes to alleviating the suffering of the poor, the Awqaf minister said Monday.
Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa said his Ministry is particularly addressing poor villages in Upper Egypt and seeks to promote voluntary action.
Charity work of the Ministry helps activate the role of mosques to serve society, said Gomaa in statements to MENA.
He warned that terrorist groups use charity work to serve their own agendas.
Gomaa said his Ministry has obtained a three-month permit to collect funds from citizens wishing to contribute to campaigns to secure school bags and blankets for the poor.
Serving people is preferable to Allah than repeating the Umra and Hajj, the minister said
