Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa

Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa warned of using worship places in parliamentary electoral campaigns.

In statements, the minister urged all Awqaf officials and imams nationwide not to allow any parliamentary candidate to use worship places or Eid prayers squares in campaigning.

The ministry stands on equal distance from all parliamentary candidates, he affirmed.

The minister called for abstaining from any political activities in the mosques to maintain their holiness.

Such practices will be monitored and reported and those involved will be punished, the minister said.

Egypt will hold its long-awaited parliamentary elections in two stages in October and November.

Fourteen administrative regions will vote on October 17 and 18, while the 13 remaining regions, including Cairo, will vote on November 21 and 22.
