Calm was restored around Al-Mahalla police station and the nearby road was reopened following clashes between protesters and security forces that kept raging until this morning. The clashes began when protesters hurled stones and Molotov cocktails on security forces in an attempt to break into the police station, blocked the road and rail crossing, causing a halt to the train movement, and prevented ambulances from reaching injured Central Security Forces personnel. The whole area was paralyzed as shops were closed and the electricity was cut off. Security forces fired tear gas to disperse the protesters. The number of injured security personnel reached 21 during the clashes around the police station that went on for nearly 15 hours, said Gharbia Security Director Hatem Osman.
