The Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi, DCT Abu Dhabi, has organised a trip to Al Wathba Wetlands Reserve for a group of people of determination, in collaboration with the Zayed Higher Organisation for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs.
The trip came as part of DCT's Year of Giving initiatives, launched by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the ongoing social and community initiatives organised by department.
Shama Al Falasi, Acting Leisure Development Section Manager at DCT, said that such trips will contribute in raising awareness among people of determination on the importance of learning about the UAE environment and exploring its rich diverse environments. The trip is also part of the UAE's keenness to support and provide equal opportunities to people of determination.
The tour offered the chance to explore a wide range of wild animals across an area of 5 square kilometres covering wetlands, sabkhas, quicksand, fossilised sand and dunes, all of which cradle more than 250 species of birds, 37 species of plants, and a variety of dragonflies and damselflies.
The group was also briefed about the sections of the reserve and visit the flamingos, which are among the reserve’s most attractive creatures to visitors.
