Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) Deputy Chairman Gamal Hegazy announced on Saturday that around 700,000 housing units in Upper Egypt have so far been supplied with natural gas.
In a report handed over to Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek el Molla, Hegazy said natural gas has been successfully provided for the first citizen in Beni Suef as part of a plan drawn up to supply 12,500 clients in the government with natural gas in the current fiscal year.
The total number of houses provided with natural gas in Beni Suef, that is located about 120 km south of Cairo, would hit 18,000 by the end of the next fiscal year.
According to the report, as many as 28,500 houses in Upper Egypt's Minya governorate would also be fed with natural gas during the fiscal year 2017/2018.
The state's national project to deliver natural gas to homes aims at achieving social justice, improving living conditions and lifting the burden put on state's budget.
