The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) is continuing to deliver health and medical assistance, as well as logistics, to the Yemeni health sector as part of a massive development plan to rehabilitate medical services and replenish the shortage in supplies.
It recently delivered solar-powered vaccine refrigerators to the Public Health and Population Office in the Hadramaut coast, in partnership with the World Health Organisation, to prepare for the launch of immunisation campaigns in 11 regions.
During a ceremony to present the refrigerators, Dr. Riyadh Al Jarariri, Director-General of the Office, thanked the ERC for their assistance to the health sector in Yemen.
''The ERC's support for the immunisation campaign carries a message of love and peace for the children of Yemen, the most vulnerable segment of the community,'' he said.
According to Abdullah Al Masafri, the head of the ERC team, the assistance for the health sector is part of the UAE's continuing humanitarian initiative in Yemen.
The refrigerators will use a unique cooling technology called Sure Chill. The new technology can power the refrigerators for up to 10 days or 170 hours, even in cloudy weather, he said.
''The vaccination campaign will target 513,489 children under five years of age, as well as pregnant women,'' he added.
