Fifth Dubai Otology Conference and Exhibition kicks off Wednesday

The fifth edition of the region’s only specialized Otology and Neurotology conference, Dubai Otology, Neurotology and Skull Base Surgery Conference & Exhibition 2017, is set to be inaugurated this coming Wednesday, 11th of October, 2017, at Mohammed bin Rashid Academic Medical Center in Dubai Healthcare City.

The event is held under the patronage of Abdul-Rahman Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention and organised annually by INDEX Conferences and Exhibitions, a member of INDEX Holding, in cooperation with UAE’s Ministry of Health, and other regional and international bodies such as the Arab Academy of Otology and Cochlear Implant and the UAE-India Business Council.

Speaking about the significance of the event, Conference Chairman and Consultant Otologist and Neurotologist, Dr. Ahmad Alamadi, Medical Director at Al Baraha Hospital, said, "We are honoured that the UAE is a proud host of this prestigious and highly specialised medical event. Dubai has firmly positioned itself as a regional and global beacon of learning in line with the general directives of the UAE leadership."

"Detailed discussions will be held on otology and neurotology topics, including facial nerve disorders, stapes surgery, mastoid surgery, implant surgery, ossiculopasty, tympanoplasty and skull base surgery," he added, saying that the conference represents a golden opportunity and a highly technical learning platform for otologists and neurotologists.

Veteran British Consultant ENT and Skull Base Surgeon of over 30 years, Dr. Tristram Lesser, said, "I’m glad to be participating for the third time in the Dubai Otology Conference, which is fast becoming a major forum for the exchange of specialised discussions on how to best treat the large spectrum of diseases that affect the ear." Dr. Lesser cautioned that people must realise the serious effects ear diseases could have, saying, "If ear diseases are not diagnosed properly, they can cause serious damage to the brain."

Dubai Otology 2017 also gives medical professionals the opportunity to earn 48.5 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points accredited by the Dubai Health Authority. CPD points, apart from adding experience to doctors, also act as pre-requisites for renewal of medical practicing license in the UAE.

Delegates and speakers from various parts of the world will be participating in the three-day event, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Oman, the United Kingdom, the United States, Lebanon, Morocco, India, Pakistan and others. Specialist manufacturers of medical devices will showcase their latest technologies at the accompanying exhibition.
