Interior Minister Lt-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa.

In a speech to mark the International Anti-corruption Day, Interior Minister Lt-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa stated:

The Kingdom of Bahrain marks with the rest of the world, the Anti-corruption Day on December 9 annually. onthis occasion, we should highlight the negative effects of corruption on economic development. It also contravenes the rule of law and social values. The Kingdom of Bahrain marks the day out of dedication to continue the reinforcement of integrity and transparency principles for the destructive implications of corruptions, especially on society and the economy. The anti-corruption efforts come through legislation development and preventative steps, in addition to, a comprehensive system of reforms to tackle corruption-related issues.

The reform project of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has achieved solid steps in fighting corruption, including constitutional amendments, empowering the legislative authority with supervisory and accountability tools and the formation of supervisory authorities to promote integrity. The economic vision 2030 that was blessed by HM the King for being the foundation of the economic process promotes integrity and justice and continuation of fighting corruption, along with the approval of the National Anti-corruption Strategy in 2013.

The joining of the United Nations Convention against Corruption contributed to the development of laws and procedures to implement the clauses of the convention. The General Directorate of Anti-corruption and Economic and Electronic Security dealt with 68 cases this year, including those mentioned in the report of the National Financial and Administrative Audit Office. I hailed the efforts of the anti-corruption authorities for their role in the protection of public money. Thanks are also extended to all ministries and organisations for their cooperation and initiatives to hold awareness activities to promote transparency and fighting corruption. May God protect Bahrain under the leadership of HM the King. (MOI)
