Kataeb political bureau held its regular weekly meeting on Monday chaired by the Party's deputy head, Joseph Abu Khalil. The meeting reportedly focused on the latest developments, as well as party leader MP Sami Gemayel's most recent visit to France and his high-level official meetings with French leaders.

In a statement issued in the wake of the meeting, Kataeb political bureau members issued a statement in which they censured the Lebanese authorities' practices deeming them an outright attempt to revive a security regime that should be way over and done with.

The statement accused the state of adopting a policy of intimidation and repression against free media by means of confiscating freedom of opinion and expression.

"All sides are called forth to be vigilant and alert, and to face the authority's practices that unrightfully drag people to courts," the statement read, snubbing the "oppressive treatment against journalist Marcel Ghanem."

In addition, Kataeb's statement said that the state's repressive methods would only increase [Ghanem's] strength and boost his position
