Kuwait - Arab Today
Kuwait is keen on developing the capabilities of the Arab League Educational, Cultural, and Scientific Organisation (ALECSO) to serve the development plans in the region, a Kuwaiti official has said.
Speaking to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on the side-line of ALECSO's eighth executive board meeting, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Education and Kuwait's nominee for ALECSO's Director General, Dr Saud Al Harbi said that developing education and the skills of those carrying knowledge to the masses was important for the development of the region.
Once Arabs countries tighten their efforts, ALECSO could boost ties with other regional and international educational bodies, Al Harbi said.
The Kuwaiti official promised that if elected as top ALECSO, he would focus on solidifying educational ties among Arab countries, saying that this was his main priority.
On his part, head of ALECSO's executive board Mohammad Salem lauded Kuwait's efforts in hosting Arab educational events aimed at bringing Arabs together.
He took the chance to laud the efforts of previous Director General, Kuwait's Abdullah Al Muharab, affirming that the late official made an impact while leading the organisation.
Kuwait's hosting of the irregular session of the general conference for the Arab League Educational, Culture and Sciences Organization (ALECSO) was an indication of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nation's educational and cultural prowess, KUNA reported.
ALECSO's Deputy Director Dr Mohammad Al Qudsi and Arab League's cultural director Dr Mohammad Al Hajri both stressed the importance of Kuwaiti support to the organisation.
They said that the GCC country had immensely contributed to the development of ALECSO, adding that Kuwait's efforts were felt in every corner of the Arab world.
