Kuwait has stressed the importance of achieving development and protecting human rights to end conflicts and achieve world peace, the head of Kuwait's Mission to the UN Mansour Al Otaibi said.
The official was taking part in an open discussion session chaired by Japan at the UN Security Council late on Wednesday under the theme of "resolving the complicated modern challenges facing world peace and security."
Al Otaibi affirmed the need of serious cooperation among all countries and UN bodies in order to achieve the 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.
Kuwait's policy had always relied on peaceful resolutions to conflicts and crises, he noted. The country also supports protecting human rights, mainly in conflict zones, he said.
Earlier, Al Otaibi hailed the UN's approval of a resolution to boost the work and efforts of the UN Security Council to achieve global peace and security. The resolution is part of the UN Secretary General's efforts to make the UN more transparent and effective in executing its duties.
