House Speaker Nabih Berri, currently on a visit to Egypt, held a meeting with the Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sissi, which he deemed "paves the way for detente."


"My meeting with President Sissi, despite all the difficulties, opens a great doorway for rapprochement," Berri said on emerging.


The meeting took place in presence of Speaker Berri's counterpart Ali Abdel-Aal, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Chukri, General Intelligence Minister Khalid Fawzi and Lebanese Ambassador Antoine Azzam. Talks centered on latest hour issues and risks prevailing in Lebanon and the region.


The Speaker urged the Lebanese people "to calm their souls" and the media to show "national and professional responsibility" in covering events.


In a press release by Speaker Berri's media bureau, it described the encounter with the Egyptian President as "fruitful" and that "Egypt is aware of the fears arising from what happened, and will work to dispel these atmospheres
