The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) has announced the release of the Paralympic Summer Games’ Rulebook in Arabic at the Frankfurt International Book Fair in Germany.
The project was a collaboration between the Foundation and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), in cooperation with the Dubai Club for People of Determination. It asserts MBRF’s leading role in promoting knowledge to all segments of society, and reflects its commitment to supporting programmes and initiatives that look to benefit the whole of society. Publishing the Arabic version of the Rulebook also reflects the Foundation’s mission to promote the Arabic language and support its use online.
Jamal bin Huwaireb, CEO of MBRF, said: "This project to translate the Paralympic Summer Games’ Rulebook reaffirms the Foundation’s commitment and responsibility towards all segments of society, in line with directives from the UAE’s wise leaders, who have called on all public and private organisations to provide support for People of Determination and help them integrate into their communities."
"With this project," he added, "the Foundation sought to provide a simplified, precise and comprehensive Arabic version of the Rulebook that is tailored to the requirements and tastes of our society, and, at the same time, meets the standards of the International Paralympic Committee with regards to sports customised for People of Determination."
The Foundation has joined hands with the Dubai Club for People of Determination to double down on its social responsibility, pledging to support People of Determination and provide them with the services they need to fully play their part in society, as directed by the UAE’s wise leadership.
The Club’s Chairman of the Board of Directors, Thani Juma Berregad, applauded MBRF for its efforts in promoting knowledge and welcomed the collaboration, saying: " Social initiatives that support People of Determination in sports, culture and society will strengthen the integration and contributions of this segment into the wider community. The Dubai Club for People of Determination has launched several initiatives to support that important segment of society and firmly place Dubai and the UAE on the Arab and international knowledge map."
On a similar note, Todd Fraser, Delegate of the International Paralympics Committee, said: "We are proud to be playing our part in raising awareness and involvement among the public around the issues that concern People of Determination and the challenges they face. Collaborating with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, as well as the Dubai Club for People of Determination, to release the Paralympic Summer Games’ Rulebook in Arabic allows us to extend that role into the region and, eventually, the world. The more we learn about the needs of People of Determination, the more we can build healthy, inclusive societies."
The Paralympic Summer Games’ Rulebook is designed to provide access to pertinent and comprehensive information about the Games for all those working in this field, as well as to establish Arabic as one of the main languages used by the International Paralympics Committee. The book collection includes 23 separate rulebooks for different sports recognised by the IPC, including: athletics, power lifts for persons with motor disabilities, wheelchair basketball, judo, cycling (track + road), equestrianism, fencing, table tennis, swimming and rugby, among others.
