NYU Abu Dhabi set to host world’s largest student event in Cyber Security

The Centre for Cyber Security at NYU Abu Dhabi, NYUAD, has announced that it will be hosting Cyber Security Awareness Week competitions in Abu Dhabi from the 9th to 11th November.

The event will feature 6 cyber competitions, keynote presentations and workshops as well as an industry fair. Participants in the event will include the winning teams of the best high school and university students, researchers, hackers and security analysts from the UAE, as well as the wider Gulf and MENA region.

"This event is considered both an intense and sustainable capacity building venture for the cyber security discipline," said Dr. Hoda Alkhzaimi, Director of the Centre for Cyber Security at NYUAD. "The different actors that are facilitating this event are in the process of cultivating a long term research and development capacity across the MENA region, and are connecting these capacities with global influencers of the research, development and industrial movements in the field here in Abu Dhabi."

The centre continues to expand each year to attract the best emerging hackers and protectors to the increasingly critical field of cybersecurity. It has participated in collaborative efforts to make Cyber Security Awareness Week global, staging simultaneous final rounds for students not only in the US, but also across the Middle East and North Africa, South Asia and this year in Europe.

Since its debut in 2003 at the NYU Centre for Cyber Security in New York, Cyber Security Awareness Week has become the largest student-led cybersecurity event in the world, featuring international competitions, workshops, and industry events. The conference has brought together some of the biggest names, both academically and professionally, in the security field.
