A violent gang targeted bank customers withdrawing large amounts of money by deliberately crashing into their cars and grabbing their savings.
Royal Oman Police arrested three men - including a bank worker they believe was tipping off accomplices about large withdrawals - after the crash and grab raids.
The three were held for stealing over OMR80,000, officials have confirmed.
The Department of Criminal Investigation, led by Muscat police, arrested three suspects in the case of robbery of more than OMR88,000 in Wilayat Bausher.
According to a police source, the defendants in the case used a unique criminal method in allegedly committing their crime.
"Suspects monitored a client at the bank, and as soon as the client departed the bank and drove away in their personal vehicles, the second and third perpetrators drove their car and collided with the victim's car from the back."
"After causing the car accident, the perpetrators approached the victim's car, assaulted the victim, and robbed the victim's vehicle along with the money," the source said.
The ROP explained that the third suspect actually worked at the bank, and allegedly provided information to the suspects for committing the crime.
The Royal Oman Police calls on citizens and residents to exercise caution when transferring cash, and to use the specialised institutions to transfer money when transferring large sums.
