Saudi Air Defence intercepted a ballistic missile which was fired from Yemen towards northeast of the Saudi capital Riyadh, the country's news agency reported.
Saudi Press Agency quoted Colonel Turki Al Maliki, Spokesman of the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, as saying the missile, which was fired in a "random and absurd manner", targeted residential areas. It was intercepted by Patriot missile system.
"This act of aggression by the Houthi armed group proves the involvement of a terrorist sponsoring country of the region in backing the Houthis with advanced capabilities, which is a stark violation of resolution 2216," he added.
