Labour and Social Development Minister Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan today received International Transport Workers Federation (ITF)’s Arab Regional Director Bilal Malkawi and a number of participants in the Regional Conference on the Rights of GCC Seafarers and the Maritime Action Charter staged by the General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions (GFBTU).

GFBTU Secretary-General Hassan Abdulla Al-Halwachi, was also present.

The minister highlighted Bahrain's adoption of integrated legislation related to the legal protection of seafarers on vessels operating in the country. He stressed the ministry’s keenness on protecting labour’s rights in various fields of work and production.

Malkawi expressed appreciation of the ministry’s interest in protecting labour’s rights, especially in marine sector, where workers need to overcome some hindrances.
