Sharjah Economic Development Department, SEDD, has conducted a special campaign for scales in order to calibrate them in central markets and retail sale outlets.
The campaign fall within SEDD’s plan to implement number of monitoring programmes in the field of standards to protect consumers from fraud and manipulation of weighs as well as to raise awareness among the owners of these stores with the importance to committee to calibrating scales.
The campaign is part of a memorandum of understanding, MoU, between SEDD and Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology, ESMA, under which the Department carries out the activities of legal standards and market surveys in the Emirate of Sharjah.
Sultan Abdullah bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, SEDD Chairman, said that the Department works on controlling markets in cooperation with all concerned parties in terms of sold products’ weight and measuring tools "scales" in all sectors in order to preserve consumer rights.
He added that scales calibration is designed to ensure the safety of measuring instruments according to the mandatory requirements, in order to achieve the necessary protection for the consumer and support the national economy.
Salem Al Suwaidi, Deputy Director of Commercial Control and Protection Department at SEDD, stated that the Department will organise a number of campaigns to monitor commercial scales in all shops and commercial sectors in Sharjah.
