Sharjah Ruler delivers lecture on importance of historical documents

H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has delivered a lecture on the importance of the documentation and research methodologies of historical documents in Kerala, India, which was attended by various academics and members of the press.

In his lecture, Sheikh Sultan gave a summary of his career, where it started and the teachings and guidance he received throughout his education, which began with a course in agriculture at Cairo University and continued with his doctoral studies in geography and history at Exeter University in the United Kingdom, UK.

H.H. Sheikh Sultan highlighted the impact every stage had on his experience and the importance of further learning science, attaining knowledge and continuing one’s studies, as the basis of advancing societies.

He also discussed the importance of scientific research in various areas and about his experience in researching the history of the Gulf region, which led him to visit the Indian Documents Library in Mumbai, where he discovered significant documents that supported his research project during that period.

This experience has greatly contributed to the establishment of his private library containing thousands of important historical sources and references.

Dr. Sheikh Sultan explained that his private library currently supports several local and international scientific institutions and it assisted the Institute of Egypt after a fire damaged many of its books on Egyptian history, especially those that were written during the French campaigns. His private library also supports the University of Sharjah and Al Qasimia University by providing them with various documents and books in the literary and scientific areas. H.H. Sheikh Sultan recently opened the Islamic Manuscripts House in Sharjah, which contains manuscripts from his own personal collection.

The lecture was attended by Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council, Sheikh Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Ruler's Office, Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Director of Government Relations Department, Abdullah Al Owais, Chairman of Sharjah Department of Culture and Information, Mohammed Obaid Al Zaabi, Director of the Sharjah Department of Protocol and Guesthouses and Mohammed Hassan Khalaf, Director General of Sharjah Media Corporation, and a number of diplomats, academics and businessmen.
