Meeting to Support for Libyan Government

A meeting to support the formation of a Libyan presidential guard authority was held in Tunis Tuesday, with Egypt taking part.

The meeting had been called for by the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), which is based in Tunis.

Speaking during the meeting was UN envoy to Libya Martin Kobler. He told participants that a plan to form a Libyan presidential guard authority will not replace that of an Armed Forces under a unified command.

Presidential guard troops would rather act as a legal force under the presidential council, Kobler said.

This plan should receive full support from the world community, the envoy said, noting that once formed, the presidential guard authority will request that exceptions be made regarding the ban imposed on weapon supply to the Arab country.
