Yukia Amano re-appointed as IAEA director general for third term

The IAEA's 61st General Conference today approved by acclamation the appointment of Director-General Yukiya Amano to a further four-year term of office, which will commence on 1st December 2017.

Amano said after the General Conference decision, "I accept the re-appointment with gratitude and humility", and assured that he is deeply honoured by the decision of the General Conference to renew his mandate as Director-General for the third term.

The Director-General thanked member states for their trust and confidence, emphasising his commitment to continue implementing the Atoms for Peace and Development mandate in an impartial and transparent manner, under the guidance of the IAEA's Board of Governors, and for the benefit of all member states.
