Receive aid due to Israeli siege

Nearly 80 percent of Gaza residents receive some kind of assistance due to the strict siege imposed on the Gaza Strip ten years ago, said the Geneva-based Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor.

In a report published in Gaza Monday, the monitor said that 40% of Gaza residents live under the poverty line, adding that unemployment rate reached to 43% due to stifling Israeli blockade.

The blockade started in the wake of the 2006 Palestinian elections, which the Palestinian Hamas Movement, won with an overwhelming majority.
