Israel mulls expanding fishing zone off Gaza shore

Israel is mulling to expand the fishing zone off the Gaza Strip shores from six nautical miles to nine.

If approved, Palestinian fishermen should not transcend the set limits, Israeli sources - speaking on condition of anonymity - told Israel Radio.

Israel targets Gaza fishermen and farmers along the borderline on an almost daily basis, in a blatant breach of a ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and armed Palestinian groups in August of 2014.

Israel has imposed a tight blockade since 2006 after Hamas won the democratic legislative election and took over power in the Strip.
