Israeli President Reuven Rivlin spoke out Tuesday against a bill that would prohibit mosques from using loudspeakers for Azan (a call to summon believers to prayers), The Times of Israel reported Wednesday.
Rivlin on Tuesday hosted a meeting of religious leaders seeking to bridge gaps over the issue of the muezzins.
The president opened the meeting by saying that "I wanted to sit and speak with you and to see if there is a path we can walk together despite our differences. I thought that perhaps such a meeting would have an impact on the public and give us some direction."
