Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday urged South Sudan leaders to expedite the ongoing peace process for the sake of the welfare of the citizens of Africa’s youngest nation, the official KBC reported.

Kenyatta said Kenya desired to see a quick restoration of peace in the neighbouring country and an end to the suffering of the people.

"Citizens look to the leaders for direction, so please take the lead in this peace process. No amount of pressure or force will bring peace if you – as the leaders – do not agree to end the conflict," Kenyatta said.

Kenyatta separately met with South Sudanese President Salva Kiir and former Vice President Riek Machar at the State House in Nairobi.
