German Chancellor Angela Merkel

The West should employ economic pressure against Russia rather than boost the Ukrainian military, German Chancellor Angela Merkel was quoted by German News Agency (DPA) as saying.
"I am convinced that this conflict won't be solved by military means ... we believe that our strength lies in economic pressure," Merkel says about US demands to allow arms deliveries for Ukraine.
"The number of arms is big in the region and it has not led to a situation in which I see a solution," she notes, adding that she is coordinating her policy with Washington.
