Pakistan summoned an Indian diplomat late Saturday and lodged protest over the killing of a national by the Indian border security troops, officials said.

The Foreign Ministry said the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) shot dead Amanat Ali across Shakargarh at the Working Boundary on Friday, the international border point.

"First Secretary of Indian High Commission was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to lodge to protest over killing of an unarmed Pakistani inadvertent crosser," the Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.

"Firing at an unarmed civilian demonstrated the intent to kill. India must respect lives of civilians and refrain from such provocations," the spokesperson said in a statement.

The statement strongly condemned the BSF's violation of Border Ground Rules.

Residents at slain Ali's native village say that the grieved family and locals staged protest against the killing near Shakargarh.

They were carrying banners and placards, and were chanting anti India slogans. The grieved family urged the UN and World Community to take serious notice of the incident.

Father of Amanat Ali urged the Pakistan government to take the case to the International Court of Justice as his son had mistakenly crossed the border but he was shot dead.
