Gaza City - Arab Today
Jamal Al-Khudari, the head of the Popular Committee Against the Siege, has called on the international community to exercise a real pressure on the Israeli authorities to end the siege clamped on the enclave for the tenth year in a row.
In statements to MENA on Saturday, Khudari urged the UN, the European Union, regional and international organizations to compel Israel end its illegal and unethical siege of Gaza which violate all human charters and international norms.
He highly appreciated the recent call made by European foreign ministers to end Gaza siege, open crossings and allow construction materials into the Gaza Strip without exceptions.
The European ministers also approved that agreements signed with Israel outside the areas of 1948 (in reference to Israeli settlements in West Bank and Al Quds) would not come into effect, criticizing the Israeli settlement construction policy which followed its occupation of Arab territories in 1967.
Khudari added that more than one million citizens in Gaza Strip depend on aid relief to survive, and the per capita income does not exceed two dollars a day.
He stressed that the humanitarian situation in Gaza has reached horrific proportions, and is affecting all aspects of life.
The harsh economic and humanitarian conditions due to the Israeli blockade have been exacerbated by the recent uprising in Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
