Russian President Vladimir Putin has discussed the situation in Syria and the operation of Russian air and space force with permanent members of the Security Council, Tass reported on Sunday.
Taking part in the meeting were Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Speaker of the Federation Council upper house Valentina Matviyenko, Speaker of the State Duma lower house Sergey Naryshkin, Chief of the presidential staff Sergey Ivanov, Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu.
Along with this, Security Service (FSB) head Aleksandr Bortnikov, Foreign Intelligence Service Director Mikhail Fradkov, Security Council Deputy Secretary Rashid Nurgaliyev and council’s permanent member Boris Gryzlov attended the meeting.
"Russia’s president has chaired the meeting of the Security Council’s permanent members," presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. "The meeting focused on the situation in Syria and operation of the Russian air and space force supporting the Syrian army’s offensive."
Besides, the fight against extremism and terrorism were tackled in a broader context, he said.
"The president offered his condolences once more to the Turkish over the terrorist attack carried out in Ankara," Peskov said adding that also topical issues related to the domestic social and economic sphere were on the agenda.
