Haimoudi will ref in FIFA’s 2014 World Cup Algiers – Khaled Alloush Algerian international Djamel Haimoudi has won the 18th annual Golden Whistle award for the best Arab referee in 2012, according to Lebanese sports magazine al-Hadath al-Riyadi. Almost 40 experts and retired international
officials, including fellow Algerian Belaid Lacarne, contributed to the poll.
This marks Haimoudi’s first Golden Whistle win, fending off stiff competition from Emirati Ali al-Badwawi (who won in 2009), who came in at second.
Saudi Khalil al-Ghamdi, ranked second in 2011, came third this year.
Tunisian ref Slim Jedidi came fourth, followed by Bahraini Nawaf Shukrallah.
Haimoudi refereed the African Cup of Nations (CAN) 2013 final between Nigeria and Burkina Faso.
He has already signed to officiate over games in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, where he will referee Cameroon and Togo’s game.
