Russian athletes won silver on Monday in men’s team event of the 2018 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Doha stepping on the podium of the global championships for the first time since 2006.
The silver for the national team was brought by Russian gymnasts David Belyavsky, Artur Dalaloyan, Nikita Nogorny, Dmitry Lankin and Nikolai Kuksenkov.
The gymnasts of the national team from China won the gold of the men’s team event, while the bronze went to the athletes from Japan.
The Russian team performed flawlessly in the qualifying round entering the final on Monday in the first place leaving behind their closest contenders China and Japan respectively in the third and fourth places.
However, Dalaloyan made a mistake in the final as he was executing his performance on parallel bars and the Chinese gymnasts took the chance edging out the Russians from the leading position.
Last time the Russians podiumed at the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in men’s team event was in 2006 in Denmark’s Arhus, where they also won the silver. At the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro, Russia snatched the Olympic silver in gymnastics men’s team event.
