Zamalek defeated Niger's AS Douanes 2-0

Zamalek defeated Niger's AS Douanes 2-0 Niamey - Arab Today Zamalek eased into the last 32 of the African Champions League after claiming a 1-0 win away to Niger's AS Douanes to complete a 3-0 aggregate victory on Sunday. Winger Hazem Emam, who came on as a second-half substitute, finished off a breakaway five minutes past the hour mark to make the most of a rare chance for the visitors and lift them to the next round. The Cairo giants, who won the last of their five Champions League titles in 2002, will face Angola's Kabuscorp for a last-16 place. The group stage begins at the quarter-final phase. Zamalek's rookie coach Mido, who led his side to four victories in his first five matches in charge, adopted a cautious strategy that saw him deploy three holding midfielders to nullify the hosts' attacks. Douanes had the better possession but created few goal-scoring chances. Their best chance came on the stroke of halftime but Zamalek's veteran keeper Abdel-Wahed El-Sayed rushed out to thwart a close-range shot. Zamalek ended the game as a contest in the 65th minute when striker Ahmed Gaafar held off his challenger to control a long pass and square the ball to the unmarked Emam, whose first-timer went past the advancing keeper from inside the area.
