Eleven members of the Maute group have allegedly been killed while five others were injured as the Philippines military forces pushed to free Butig, local media quoted a military spokesman as saying on Sunday.
Earlier, two soldiers were reported wounded after suffering shrapnel wounds.
The group occupied several establishments in Butig, the spokesman said, adding that citizens have been evacuated from the area.
"The Armed Forces of the Philippines will continue to frustrate the sinister objectives of the Maute Group and government will prevent the situation from escalating to other areas," the Phillipines Palace said in a statement released on Sunday.
