Twelve people were killed in a fire that broke out at the construction market in southern Moscow, the press service of the capital's emergencies department told Russia's (Itar-Tass) news agency on Tuesday.
The fire ripped through a two-storey building adjacent to a hangar on the territory of the Kachalovsky market on the Varshavskoye highway.
Law enforcers reported with reference to the market's administration that there could be 15 workers inside the burnt building that served as a hostel.
"According to the preliminary information, the fire can be caused by malfunction of electric appliances or short circuit," the source said.
