At least 160 people have been killed due to floods and heavy rains in India\'s eastern state of Bihar this monsoon season, local disaster management officials revealed Tuesday.The officials said the incessant rains triggered floods in major rivers of the state including rivers like Ganga, Sone, Budhi Gandak and Kosi which led to inundation of more than 20 districts in the region.Capital Patna, Bhojpur, Buxar, Vaishali, Saran and Bhagalpur were some of the districts severely affected by the raging floods, disaster management officials said.The officials said that the government has provided monetary compensation to the relatives of 160 persons killed by floods.The monsoon rains in eastern India starts from the month of June and ends in September.The officials said more than 2,500 boats have been pressed into service since many district are still under the flood waters.Apart from the killed, 5.5 million people have been displaced from their homes, officials said.The government has deployed many joint teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and state disaster response to deal with the worsening flood situation.The sources said the government has set up relief camps for the flood affected in most of the affected areas.
