Three people, including the gunman, were dead in a shooting at a factory near the Swiss city of Lucerne on Wednesday (Feb. 27), police said.

Seven others were injured, some of them seriously, said the Lucerne Catonal police.

Urs Wigger, spokesman of the Lucerne police, told Xinhua that the dead suspect, a 42-year-old Swiss man, was an employee of the factory.

When asked whether the gunman killed himself after shooting other people, Wigger said the police cannot confirm at this stage, but he said that only one gun was involved in the incident.

The motive is still unknown, he said.

The incident happened at a wood processing company named Kronospan in the town of Menznau shortly after 9:00 a.m. local time (08:00 GMT), police said in a statement.

A hotline has been set up by the police for families of employees of the company.

Last month, a 33-year-old man killed three women and wounded two men in a southern Swiss village in the Canton of Valais.
