Four people died and 18 others were injured in a grisly accident on the Accra-Kumasi highway, Ghanaian police reported on Friday. The accident involving a 33-seater Benz passenger bus occurred on the Nkawkaw stretch of the highway Friday morning, according to Samuel Tetteh, Ashanti regional commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU). He attributed the accident to the bursting of a tyre of the bus. The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the morgue while the injured taken to hospital for emergency attention. As of the first quarter of this year alone, a total of 541 people had been killed as a result of motor accidents and more than 3,000 others injured. The crashes involved 5,226 vehicles comprising 2,360 commercial vehicles, 2,276 private vehicles and 590 motor-bikes, according to statistics from the MTTU.
